Jamie Hartmann-Boyce and Nicola Lindson discuss emerging evidence in e-cigarette research. Ailsa Butler interviews Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, Yale School of Medicine, USA.

In this episode Associate Professor Nicola Lindson, University of Oxford, and Associate Professor Jamie Hartman-Boyce, UMass, discuss emerging evidence in e-cigarette research and Dr Ailsa Butler, University of Oxford, interviews Dr Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, Professor of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine, USA.

Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin talks to Ailsa Butler at the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco Europe conference in Paris about her research on vaping cessation. Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin discusses Kick-Nic, a smartphone app-based behavioural intervention to help young people stop vaping, which also addresses cannabis and other tobacco use. Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin also shares findings from her team's studies of behavioural and financial incentives for vaping cessation, as well as research showing high levels of cotinine-a marker of nicotine exposure-among adults who vape. Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin emphasises the need for a balanced approach: while vaping can be an important harm-reduction tool for people who smoke combustible cigarettes, it is also important to recognise and respond to the different needs of young people.

This podcast is a companion to the electronic cigarettes Cochrane living systematic review and Interventions for quitting vaping review and shares the evidence from the monthly searches.
